Photo Essay - A photographic essay is a set or series of photographs that are intended to tell a story or evoke a series of emotions in the viewer.
Essays range from purely photographic projects or photographs with images, captions, and narrations.
Define a theme of the photo essay. This will help you connect with your viewer. Show them compelling and interesting connections among the images. This can be done after your take your photos. Don't hold back, shoot away!
Narrative shots - The Lead Photo or Hook should draw in your audience. Should provoke the curiosity of the viewer.
Establishing shots are pictures that set the stage and describe the scene of your story. Provide the viewer a scene of where they are going.
Detail photos focus in on one element. Closeup photos provide an opportunity to focus in on specific objects. Dramatize the story.
Clincher shot is the final photo, should evoke the emotion you want the viewer to walk away with. The one that says "The End".
Captions should provide good details about the images. Engage the audience.
Prepare a script for narration or a basic outline. Narration adds depth and harmony to the project.
